In the world of professional baseball, Shohei Ohtani of the big league Angels is currently showing tremendous performance in pitching and hitting, and I am really enjoying it, but no, Japanese professional baseball is also interesting!
When I was a child, the Hiroshima Carp was a weak team, called “a liability in the Central League” or “always in the B class,” etc. But now, half of the stadiums everywhere are dyed red, and I am somewhat thrilled that the Carp has really become a national team and that the number of fans has increased.

The home ground of the Hiroshima Carp is the Mazda Stadium (official name MAZDA Zoom-Zoom Stadium Hiroshima), located in Minami Kanieya, Minami-ku, Hiroshima City.
This article summarizes the various ways to get to Mazda Stadium from various locations in the city.
The most common way to get there is to take public transportation to JR Hiroshima Station and walk from the South Exit. However, there are of course people who cannot walk for long periods of time or who prefer to drive, and there may be cases where you want to go directly from a location other than JR Hiroshima Station.
With this in mind, we will provide as much detail as possible on how to get to Mazda Stadium by walking, by bus, and by car. Let’s go to the stadium by the route that suits you best and cheer together!

Maps of routes to Mazda Stadium
First, please see the map of several routes to Mazda Stadium.

The red lines on the map are for walking and the blue lines are for buses, as we will tell you individually in the next and subsequent chapters.
Please use the buttons to return to the map between chapters as appropriate.
How to get to Mazda Stadium on foot
The most common way to get to Mazda Stadium is to walk from JR Hiroshima Station or other stations.
Walking from the South Exit of JR Hiroshima Station
Take the South Exit of JR Hiroshima Station and walk to the left. With the Tsutaya Denki building on your right, follow the road just beside the JR Sanyo Main Line.
This is commonly called “Carp Road,” and you will see signs with the players, stores selling Carp goods, ramen shops, Lawson, and various other stores.
Although it is a narrow street, it is crowded with Carp fans on days when there is a game.
It is a straight road, and I don’t think you will get lost. The official Hiroshima Carp website says it is a 10-minute walk, but it may take a little longer.
I wrote this route in this article.

There is a Lawson in the middle of this street. Usually Lawson’s key color is blue, but here it is specially designed with the Hiroshima Carp’s red as its main color. It is also called “Red Lawson,” which may be interesting for those who come from other prefectures.
Walking from the Matobacho stop of the Hiroden City Tram
It may not seem like much, but you can also reach Mazda Stadium in a little over 10 minutes from the Matobacho stop on the Hiroshima Electric Railway’s city tram (streetcar). (See map).
If you are in the area near the Matobacho stop and are going to visit Mazda Stadium, it would be faster to take this route directly to the stadium than to go to Hiroshima Station.
How to get to Mazda Stadium by bus
The closest bus stop to Mazda Stadium is “Mazda Stadium-mae “, which is about 350 meters to the front gate, or about a 4-minute walk, which is much easier than walking from Hiroshima Station.
Below are written directions for getting to the stadium by bus from three locations: Hiroshima Bus Center (Kamiyacho), Hiroshima Station, and Ujina.
Mazda Stadium by bus from Kamiyacho and Hiroshima Bus Center
If you are from nearby prefectures and arriving at the Kamiyacho Bus Center by bus to Hiroshima, it is convenient to transfer directly to the bus.

Bus from Grand Prince Hotel to Mazda Stadium
Assuming you are going from the Grand Prince Hotel in Moto Utsu, which was the center of attention during the G7 Summit.
From here, you can also take a bus to Mazda Stadium, although you will have to change buses on the way.
Hiroshima Bus
[21-2] Ujina Line bound for Hiroshima Station (South Exit)
Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima Mae” ⇒ Transfer at Kamiyacho ⇒ Hiroshima Bus
440 yen (220 yen + 220 yen) approx. 55 min.
The Mazda Stadium Mae bus stop is located near the “Stadium Mae (East) Intersection” on Ozu Street, a street running east-west to the south of the stadium.
There is a 7-Eleven convenience store in front of the bus stop. (However, it is prohibited to bring food and beverages into the stadium.)
Here are the Mazda Stadium-related pages for each bus company.
How to get to Mazda Stadium by cab
Cab from Hiroshima Station to Mazda Stadium
Mazda Stadium is too close to Hiroshima Station to be reached by cab, but of course that is also true.
However…currently (as of June 2023) the south exit of JR Hiroshima Station is in the midst of a major urban development project and is undergoing major changes.
Although the Mazda Stadium is usually accessed from the South Exit of JR Hiroshima Station, the cab stand at the South Exit is temporary, located far away from the stadium, and only two cabs can reach the stadium.
The cab stand at the North Exit is easier to find and is recommended, although it is a roundabout way.
Cab Stand at North Exit of JR Hiroshima Station
This picture shows the cab stand at the North Exit of JR Hiroshima Station. Take the stairs from the free passageway down to the first floor of the North Exit, and you will see a wide roundabout in front of the entrance.
The cab stand is located in front of the roundabout. (In front of Nippon Travel Agency)

Cab Stand at South Exit of JR Hiroshima Station
This is the temporary cab stand at the South Exit of Hiroshima Station. Take the Shinkansen or Sanyo Main Line, get off at the station, and go out the South Exit through the free passageway from the Central Exit. The Hiroden tram stop is on your left, near the platform on the main street side. As I mentioned earlier, it is a little difficult to find and there are only two cars there, so I do not recommend it.
- Fares
-
Cab fares in Hiroshima City are 750 yen for the first 1,500 meters for a standard car. (The fare is based on a combined time and distance system, so there is an additional charge if the speed is below 10 km/h.)
The distance from Hiroshima Station to the stadium is approximately 900 meters, so it will cost you about the same as the initial fare plus extra. - Time
-
From Hiroshima Station (North or South Exit) to Mazda Stadium: about 5 min.
Cab from Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima to Mazda Stadium
In the previous section, I wrote about taking the bus from the Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima to Mazda Stadium, but from the Grand Prince, taking a cab may be the easiest and most practical option.
The taxi will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Mazda Stadium in about 20 minutes for about 2,200 to 2,500 yen.
How to get to Mazda Stadium by private car (IC and road)

It depends on which direction you are coming from…
Sanyo Expressway Itsukaichi IC
Get off here and take Hiroshima Expressway Route 4, which costs about 420 yen, and you can get to the center of Hiroshima City in a few minutes (you will reach a place called Nakahiro, Nishi Ward). You will come to a street called “Jonan Dori”. Go straight on this street.
You will pass in front of Hiroshima Castle and drive until you reach “Ekimae Ohashi Minamizume” (Ekimae Ohashi Minamizume).
Turn left at “Ekimae Ohashi Minamizume” and cross the Ekimae Ohashi Bridge. You will soon come to a large street on your left and right, so turn right at the traffic light. This is “Ozu Street. Turn east for a few minutes and you will reach the stadium.
Sanyo Expressway Hiroshima IC
After exiting the Hiroshima IC, drive toward Hiroshima City, passing Ushida and Hakushima, and you will come to the side of Hiroshima Castle. There you will hit “Jonan Dori Street” and turn left. The rest of the route is the same as above.
Sanyo Expressway Hiroshima Higashi IC
There is another route from the Hiroshima Higashi IC, which is closer as a straight line distance, but I do not know it well myself, and it seems to be quite complicated after getting off the IC, so I do not recommend it here.

Please check with Google Maps.

Mazda zoom-zoom Stadium Parking Lot Information
The above is a summary of how to get to Mazda Stadium by bus, cab, or private car.
It is difficult to reserve or find a parking space, and we recommend using public transportation if at all possible.
So, what will happen to the Carp this year? I hope to go see it twice or even once in the rest of the year!

Go Carp! (Sorry, fans of other teams… m(;_ _)m)
