The other day, I stayed at a capsule hotel early in the morning.
I am a relatively early riser and wake up at 5:00 or 5:30.
And when I wake up, I check the internet news on my phone and spend a lot of time relaxing….
In the meantime, I hear the sound of an alarm coming from somewhere on the floor.

The earliest is before 6:00 a.m., I guess. Then gradually, alarms of various tones can be heard here and there.
Some are clearly loud, while others keep on ringing for a long time without stopping. Frankly speaking, I often think that this is bad manners, no matter how much it costs.
Some people may want to sleep a little more slowly. I think there are few people who are tired.
It is the first thing to do when using a capsule hotel to avoid making unnecessary noise.
And yet, I am the one who often resents in my mind, “Who the hell are you…?
In this article, I will write about my thoughts on how to wake up on such mornings in capsule hotels.
Early mornings in capsule hotels, I often experience…
As I mentioned earlier, no matter which capsule hotel I stay in, the alarms usually start going off in various places before 6:00 in the morning. And it gradually becomes more and more frequent.
Of course, there are many people who have to be up early in the morning for work or other reasons. It is understandable that such people would want to set their alarms early in the morning.
However, a capsule hotel is a special kind of space where users are in close proximity to each other, and sounds can be heard everywhere, so it is important to be careful not to cause problems for others.
There are many people who still want to sleep. I think we should have appropriate manners for such people.
In the next section, we will consider how to wake up in a capsule hotel and what you should do.
The mannerly way to wake up in a capsule hotel is
There are three main ways to wake up in a capsule hotel.
- Have a capsule hotel employee wake you up
- Use the alarm that comes with the capsule
- Use the alarm function of your smartphone or the alarm on your watch
I will explain each of these.
(1) Ask an employee of a capsule hotel to wake you up.
The best of these, if possible, is 1. “Ask an employee of a capsule hotel to wake you up.
I don’t remember the name of the hotel, but I once saw an employee come early in the morning and wake someone up by whispering, “Good morning, it’s morning.
This is the smartest way to wake up without disturbing others.
Unfortunately, however, only a few capsule hotels offer this service.
I know it is difficult because of the burden it places on the hotel, but I hope this service becomes more and more popular.
(2) Using alarms attached to capsules
Next is “using the alarm that comes with the capsule.” This seems like a good idea because it comes with the capsule, but I think it is a bigger problem than it seems.

The photo shows a controller that is very common and can be found anywhere.
Alarm settings are always included (back right).
However, I have never used it.
I have never used it, because the alarm would (and probably will) simply go off.
I have never used it, so it is hard to tell you how it sounds, but an alarm going off = annoyance to others.
I think it is barely good if you keep the sound to a minimum, but I am afraid that would give you the possibility of not being able to wake up.
If the sound is loud enough to wake me up, it will disturb the people around me, and if I turn the sound down, I won’t be able to wake up, what’s the point?
(3) Use the alarm function of your smartphone or the alarm on your watch.
2.I think that many people use the alarm function of their own smartphone or watch. However, this is the same thing, and if the alarm is set off loud enough to wake you up, it will disturb the people around you.

So there is no countermeasure…? No. There is a “vibrate function” that wakes you up with vibration without sound. I recommend this.
In the next section, I will tell you about the “vibrate function” of your smartphone and watch.
Vibrate function (1) Clock app on your phone
The following explanation is for the iPhone at hand.
First, open “Clock”.

You will see this screen.
↓
If you want to set a new time, tap the “+” button in the upper right corner.
Or, if the time has already been set, tap “Edit” in the upper left corner to make it editable, then tap the time.

Tap the third “Sound.
The default is “Radar”.
Set this to “None” at the bottom of the screen. Now you have a setting where no sound is emitted.

↓↓.
Tap “Vibration” above to set the vibration pattern.
There are 9 different patterns, including the default, but “Rapid” is the most likely to wake you up, as it repeats “BUB-BUB-BUB-BUB…” for a short period of time.
Unfortunately, the intensity of the vibration cannot be adjusted on the iPhone.

There are also ways to make your own.
Tap “Create New Vibration.”

↓arrow (mark or symbol)
Tap the screen that comes up and it will vibrate, and the vibrations will continue as long as you touch it.
When you release your finger, the vibrator will go off.
You can make it for about 10 seconds in total.
You can make it yourself, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz.

If the pattern is OK, tap “Save” in the upper right corner and give it a name to save it.
When you want to play (vibrate) the pattern, just select the pattern with this name and it will vibrate.
This one has 10 seconds and you can make it buzz in detail, so I think it is suitable for alarms.
(For me, I think it is easier to wake up with a random alarm than a regular one.)
Vibration function (2) Smartphone apps with a vibrating alarm function
There are smartphone apps with a vibrate alarm function, so it would be interesting to use those.

These are also useful.
There is also a time and minute break-in (timer function), a schedule function, and so on.
The ads are a bit annoying in the free version… (laughs).
Please look for it in the Appstore for iPhone, or in Google Play for Android.
Vibration function (3) A clock with a function
Clocks with a vibrate function are also quite useful.
These allow you to wake up with a vibration.
We have not been able to confirm the vibrations of the watch vibrator, but the iPhone vibrator is never strong enough. We recommend that you place it under your pillow or some other place where you can easily notice it and go to sleep.
In any case, by using the vibrate function well, even in a capsule hotel, you will be able to sleep without worrying about disturbing others or waking up the next morning with peace of mind.
Conclusion
In capsule hotels, where sound tends to leak out to the surroundings, how not to disturb others in terms of sound is a very big manner.
Especially for those who have to leave early in the morning, you need to be careful because many people are still sleeping.
If you must get up at such hours, by all means use the vibrate function of your phone or watch.
Also, when you make your reservation, you could ask, “Do you have a service where the hotel staff can wake me up?” When you make a reservation, you can also ask, “ Does the hotel provide a service to wake me up?
At this point, I think there are still not many of them, but if we get a lot of such inquiries, the hotels may feel compelled to offer that service.
Recently, there are clocks that wake you up with a light when the time comes, and I also hope that such alarms will become more widespread.

Please have a wonderful trip!
