Where to find coin lockers in and around Hiroshima Station? 14 locations

As you may know, JR Hiroshima Station has undergone a large-scale redevelopment of the South Exit over a five-year period starting in 2019, and the station building “minamoa ” opened this year on March 24, 2025.

At the same time, it used to be quite inconvenient to go out the south exit through a temporary passageway under construction, but now it is properly maintained and it is much easier to go out the south exit and to take a train or bus.

(Redevelopment work is still in progress, and Hiroshima Electric Railway trains are scheduled to enter the second floor and connect to the North-South Free Passage around summer. All of this is scheduled to be completed on September 30.)

So I went to Hiroshima Station again and checked all the coin lockers, especially at the South Exit, which has undergone major changes, and completely updated the map and content of this article.

コインロッカーイラスト

During the South Exit construction, there were almost no coin lockers in the south, which was inconvenient, but now there are quite a few at the South Exit, and they have become more convenient. At present (July 2025), there are a total of 14 locations in and around the station (including one temporary storage facility).

Hiroshima Station is complex, with various facilities on both the first and second floors, but I have made a diagram to make it as easy to understand as possible and included photos I have taken.

We hope this will be of some help to those who are having trouble finding coin lockers at Hiroshima Station.

First, please take a look at the central exit of JR Hiroshima Station and the overall map.

The North Exit and South Exit of Hiroshima Station are connected by a 2F free passageway, and the Central Exit ticket gate is located in the middle of the passageway.
This picture was taken just outside the Central Gate. In front is a new commercial facility called “minamoa” (minamoa is the name of the building that was newly built this year), and to the right is the passageway to the south exit, and to the left is the north exit.

Please take a look at the overall view (if it is difficult to see, please enlarge the image).

As I wrote a little earlier, the location of the two entrances is like this.

The Shinkansen ticket gate is close to the North Exit, and there is a commercial facility called “ekie” right next to it.
Toward the south exit, there is a new commercial facility called “minamoa,” a tram stop of Hiroshima Electric Railway, and the city bus terminal.

There are a total of 14 coin lockers and baggage storage facilities in and around Hiroshima Station, from 1 to 14 shown in the figure.

Since they are located on both the 1st and 2nd floors, there is an alternative to using two diagrams, but we have decided to use one diagram, with the coin lockerson the 1st floor in green, the coin lockers on the 2nd floor in red, and the coin lockers and baggage deposit boxes in the Yale A building in purple.

Below is a description of the five major areas shown below.

  1. Inside the ticket gates (① in the figure)
  2. North Exit (around Shinkansen Exit ticket gates and around Ekie Kitchen ) (②, ③, ④, , and ⑥ in the diagram)
  3. North Exit ( around Ekie Dining ) (⑦⑧ in the figure)
  4. South Exit (near Minamoa) (9) (10)
  5. Others (Yale A Building (11), Temporary Luggage Storage (12))

Click or tap 1-5 above to go to each area.

You can return to the map at the beginning of this page by tapping the “Return to Station Map” button.

*The Central Gate and the North-South Free Passage are at the 2nd floor level. We will insert (2F) (1F) (B2F), etc. as appropriate.

Locker Size and Fees

The sizes and feesaregenerally as follows, although they vary from place to place.

  • Small: 34 cm (H) x 34 cm (W) x 63 cm (D) 400 yen
  • Medium] Approx. 60 cm (H) x 34 cm (W) x 63 cm (D): 600 yen
  • Large】H.90cm x W34cm x D63cm: about 800 yen
  • Extra-large] about 120 cm (height) X 34 cm (width) X 63 cm (depth): 1,000 yen or 1,200 yen

However, some of them are large in width,

  • Large size] about 120 cm (H) x 45 cm (W) x 63 cm (D) 1 ,000 yen

The following is a list of the basic types of items: 【Small】,【Medium】,【Large】.
(Data is current as of June 2025. Please note that the location and number may change in the future.)

Inside the ticket gate (where you get off the Shinkansen and transfer to a conventional train) (1 location)

Depending on your subsequent travel, it may be convenient to find a place where you can leave your baggage without having to exit the station ticket gates.
There is one such coin-operated locker available.

Figure 1]《2F》 Exit the ticket gate for transferring from the Shinkansen to the JR line.

When you get off the Shinkansen and walk straight ahead, the large ticket gate in front of you, slightly to the left, is the North Exit.

On the way to the North Exit, you will see a sign that says “JR Line Norikae-guchi”, which is a ticket gate for transferring to a conventional JR line such as the Sanyo Main Line. There are coin lockers just past this ticket gate.

(This is still inside the station ticket gate. Shinkansen express tickets are collected at this ticket gate, and the boarding tickets are returned. (The ticket will be collected when you exit through the central ticket gate after this, or at the destination where you used the JR train.)

Go through the concourse toward the exit, but turn right on the way.

This is the ticket gate.

You can see coin lockers at the end of the exit.

I think it is very convenient if you plan to use the JR line next time you go to Miyajima, for example, after leaving your luggage and having a meal in the vicinity of Hiroshima Station. There are many of them, and the long hours of use, from early in the morning to late at night, are also a great advantage. However, they may not be available very often…

North Exit (around Shinkansen Exit ticket gates and Ekikitchen area) (5 locations)

The North Exit has undergone major changes in recent years. Large hotels have lined the area, and a wide corridor has been built around the hotels to connect them. Urban planning is underway to make it even bigger in the future.

There are a total of seven coin lockers at the North Exit, but I will first tell you about the five locations around the Shinkansen Exit ticket gates (2F) and the first floor of the building there (Ekiekitchen).

These are the closest coin lockers from the Shinkansen ticket gates. You can see it on the left side of the ticket gate, but it is not placed along the wall as usual.

Only large size, only 14 pieces, but I think it is convenient to be close to the ticket gate.

3】《2F》 Behind the lockers in 2 (in front of Seven-Eleven)

It is also located around the corner of the pillar to the left from the lockers in the previous section. It is in front of a 7-Eleven.

This space used to be a small space with 8 large and 8 medium lockers, but when I went to check it out the other day, I was surprised to see that the number of lockers had increased dramatically. The space is large, and there are as many as 50 oversized items lined up in a row.

The picture is cut off, but they are all lined up on the right.

The extra large size lockers are probably for overseas visitors. 1,000 yen is a bit expensive to leave luggage, but I think it is very convenient for those with large luggage.

To be honest, this is a place I myself did not notice until recently. There are only a few of them, but they are quietly set up.

Go straight down the aisle at the point indicated in the previous figure (3), with the escalator and the Pokémon Center on your right.

There is a passageway to the right circled in red, so turn right there.

Here.

You can also go through the pedestrian walkway (pedestrian deck).
When you get to the passage, go forward, looking at 7-Eleven Heart and the Pokemon Center on your left.

You will see the entrance to EKIE.

The 2nd floor is located on the opposite side of the free passageway from the North Exit (Shinkansen Exit) ticket gate, slightly to the right, in front of the large stairs and escalator leading down to the 1st floor.

In this picture, you can see EKIE beyond the coin lockers and the big stairs between them. It is an easy place to find, but I think it is often crowded.

5, 6, 7, and 8 from here will be on the 1st floor of the North Exit.

As for 5 in the figure, it would be faster to take the escalator inside the ekie kitchen if you come from the Shinkansen ticket gate. (Or you can take the big stairs at [4 in the figure].

This is the escalator in front of the 7-Eleven that was also mentioned earlier in [Fig. 3]. After getting off here, please head for the exit.

The entrance to the EKIE kitchen is on the right side of the photo. There is a restroom next to it, and coin lockers are located next to it.
If you take the stairs down from the free passageway, you will cross the North Exit Plaza.

8 on the map】《1F》 West end of the North Exit and EKIE Kitchen building (outside of the building)

This place is tucked away and may not be well known. The lockers are a bit old and IC cards are not accepted, but I think it is a good place to go.

Below is a floor guide of the ekie kitchen, which is indicated by the red arrow in the upper left corner. To get there from the free passageway, you can either take the stairs down to the first floor and walk along the outside passageway along the ekie kitchen building, or go through the ekie kitchen stores.

How to go by the outside passage

Take the stairs (escalator) down to the 1st floor. Turn left (west side) at the “Hoshino Coffee Shop” on the corner and go straight along the building. You will see “Nippon Ryoko”, “ATM”, and “Matsumotokiyoshi”.

The cab stand is directly in front of you on your right, and the large building in front of you on your right is Hotel Granvia Hiroshima.

Turn left where the building ends after passing Matsumotokiyoshi, and you will find coin lockers.

Around the corner. Coin lockers are located in two places on the left and in front of the building.

How to go through EKIE Kitchen

Go down the escalator in front of 7-Eleven.

Once you get off the escalator, go straight down the passageway. Pass by Matsumotokiyoshi on both sides and go out through the front door.

North Exit (around Ekie Dining) (2 locations)

As in the previous section, the North Exit is located on the east side of the free passageway (on the right in the diagram), and there is a dining facility called Ekie Dining. The following are the two locations around the Ekie Dining.

9】《1F》 North Exit, by the stairs going down to EKIE Dining (coin lockers and baggage storage)

There is a large staircase (escalator) at the north end of the center of the 2nd floor free passageway, which leads down to the entrance of EKIE Dining on the 1st floor. There are coin lockers right next to the stairs.

There are many here. Although there are many visitors, there are also quite a few lockers, so it is not uncommon for them to be empty.

I will explain the stairs going down to the first floor.
I took this picture from the exit of the Shinkansen ticket gate. It is somewhat difficult to see from this angle, but it is on the right in front, circled in red.

It looks like this when you get closer. From the central ticket gate, you can see it on the far left.

When you go down the stairs, there is a coin locker on your right. The entrance to “ekie dining” is next to it on the left, so you can easily recognize it.

The inside looks like this. There are a lot of them.

There are also pay phones and, for some reason, a box for taking driver’s license photos.

A temporary baggage storage facility is also located here. It is rare to have both in one place, which is very convenient.

Temporary Luggage Deposit Area

A temporary baggage storage facility , Crosta Hiroshima, is located inside the coin-operated lockers.

Although the hours of operation are limited (8:00 to 20:00) and the fees may be relatively expensive, it is nice to know that there is a person in charge who is available for consultation.

Also, they offer a “carry-on service” that delivers baggage from here to hotels in the city on the same day. It is very easy and nice to leave your luggage here in the morning, enjoy a full day of sightseeing in Hiroshima, and pick it up at your hotel at night.

Tickets are purchased from an automatic ticket vending machine at the counter.

10】【10】 of the diagram《2F》 In the back of “CLINIC & SERVICE” on the 2nd floor of ekie, North Exit

This is an easy place to get to as it is located on the same floor as the ticket gates. However, the inside of “ekie” is large, and there are many souvenir stores and restaurants, and on holidays, there are many people, and it is difficult to find the building. I will try to give you a route that is as easy to follow as possible.

First of all, here is a floor guide of the entire building. The one in red is the easiest to get lost in. Coin lockersare in“CLINIC & SERVICE” on the upper left.

The entrance is on the left side (north side) of the long glass-walled central aisle.

You will recognize it by the large sign that says “Souvenir Hall” as you enter.

After that, just keep going straight ahead. There is a possibility that the store may change, but for now, the “TopasKitchen” and “Ginza Lion” signs will be your goal.

When you pass the Ginza Lion sign, you will see the “CLINIC & SERVICE” sign at the back on your left. Coin lockers are located in this building.

Now let’s move on to the south side of the station.

South Exit (Conventional Train Exit) (2 locations)

During the six years of redevelopment work on the south exit of the station, there were really few coin lockers on the south side of the station, which I think caused some inconvenience to visitors. Now there are quite a few coin lockers in two locations, so it has become very convenient.

The locations are at the west and east ends of the newly constructed “minamoa ” station building.

11】《1F》 West end of minamoa

Let us start from the Central Exit ticket gate.

When you get out of the central exit ticket gate, you will see something like this.

Follow the road and you will see an escalator (or stairs), which is still under construction at this time (June 2025).

Go down to the first floor using the escalator (or stairs). Turn right (toward the bus stop).

When you turn, you will see something like this. You will see many buses stopped on the left. Keep going forward, looking at the row of several stores on your right.

Go a little further and you will see a coin locker at the end of Kinko’s.

This is what it looks like when you get closer. There are quite a few, and I have the impression that there are many large lockers.

【12】《1F》 East end of MINAMOA

Another new coin locker is located at the east end of MINAMOA at the south exit.

This is the space where coin lockers had been located before the construction, and I feel that they have been “restored” to their original state.
Since it is located on the way to Mazda Stadium, people going to see a Carp game used to leave their luggage here and change into their Carp uniforms here.

There is a lot of space here and a very large number of coin lockers. The twin best places to find lockers in terms of number of lockers are by the grand staircase at the north exit (8 in the figure) or here.

When you get out of the south exit, go straight to the left on the passageway.

Follow the path and past the Ringer Hut restaurant, you will find the entrance to the coin lockers.

This is the entrance. Open the door to enter the building.

There are quite a lot of lockers. There are a large number of lockers and the area is a little far from the station, so there may be a relatively large number of lockers available.

And one more place on the South Exit side. It is not Hiroshima Station, but it is in the “Yale A-Building Specialty Store District” across the main street from the station.

It is a little far from the station because it is across the main street, but I personally think it is a good place to go.

Others (Yale A Building, temporary luggage storage)

13] Fukuya Hiroshima Ekimae Store 1st floor (in Yale A-building )

There is a large 11-story building called “Yale A-kan” across the street from the south exit of Hiroshima Station called Johoku Dori.
The department store FukuyaHiroshima Ekimae Store ” occupies the basement floor and above, and the second basement floor is used for the “Yale A-Kan Specialty Store Mall”.

The coin lockers here have been relocated from the B2F Specialty Store Mall and have taken on a more “coin locker for Fukuya customers” character. It may not be the best place to feature them in this article, but we will include them as they are in case you are interested.

To get to the Yale A building specialty store area from Hiroshima Station,

  • Enter the ground floor of Fukuya through the pedestrian crossing on Johoku Dori.
  • Enter the second basement floor of Yale A Tower via the underground passageway and take the elevator to the first floor.

or enter the basement of Fukuchiya via the underground passageway and take the elevator to the first floor.
There are two crosswalks to cross Johoku-dori Street, one to the west and the other to the east, but either way it is quite a big detour, so it is easier to go via the underground passageway. We will show you that way.

If you want to go via the underground passageway via the south exit underground plaza

Take the escalator down from the free passageway, walk along the passageway, and follow the sign for “South Exit Underground Plaza. On the way, there is an escalator that goes down to the underground passage.

This is the South Exit Underground Plaza. The entrance to the Yale A building (B2F) is on your right.

Enter the entrance and take the elevator on your right to the 1st floor.

As soon as you get off the elevator on the 1st floor, you will find this coin locker.

Please note that these are available from 8:00 to 22:00 and are free of charge for up to 3 hours, but 500 yen will be charged every 2 hours after 3 hours. Also, it is for same-day use only, so you cannot cross the day.

Further down the corner, turn left and you will immediately see this coin-operated locker. These are for refrigeration only. If you have items you bought that need refrigeration, this is a good place to use. These are available from 8:00 to 22:00 for 300 yen per use. The condition is that you can use it only on the same day.

The lockers are located far away from JR Hiroshima Station , so there is a possibility that they may be open.

Temporary baggage storage (1 location)

Lastly, although located a short distance from the ticket gates, the temporary baggage storage area is located on the west side of the station. 13] in the figure below.

The location is a bit confusing, but if there is no vacancy anywhere, you may choose to leave your baggage here.

Figure 13: Route to the baggage deposit area

Please refer to the diagram below. It takes about 5 minutes on foot from the Shinkansen Exit (North Exit) ticket gate.

This is further west from the coin-operated lockers indicated by “7” in the figure. The first 7 are omitted. Please see thewest end of the building (outside of the building) of [7 in the figure] 《1F》North Exit, EKIE Kitchen.

After passing the coin locker at “7,” enter the narrow street between the Hotel Granvia and Hiroshima Station buildings and continue on.

It is a little distance, but keep going straight.

After walking for a while, you will see a signboard like this, so turn left there. (The design may have changed a little, but I think the sign is still there.)

You have arrived at the temporary storage area. Please show your luggage to the person in charge and go through the procedures.

I asked about the fee, but was told that it depends on the size and weight of the luggage, so I did not know exactly what the fee was.
In any case, please pay attention to the business hours here, too.

ICOKA Coin Locker Availability Information Service

On March 14 of this year, JR Service Net Hiroshima Co., Ltd. of the JR West Japan Group launched “Coin Locker Concierge,” a search system that allows you to check the availability of coin lockers at Hiroshima Station in real time. Click here to see the news release.

The system is only for “IC card compatible lockers” in Hiroshima Station, so not all of the ones I included in my article are available, but I think it’s great that you can quickly check the availability in real time. I have used it for a while and it is very convenient. I have used it for a while and it is very useful. (Place the 2D code)

Conclusion

The above is an introduction to the coin lockers and baggage storage facilities in Hiroshima Station and the station area. As far as we can tell, this seems to be all that is available at this time (June 2025).

Personally,I recommendthe coin lockersunder the stairs at the North Exit and the ones at the east end of the minamoa at the South Exit, as they are new, clean, and plentiful. However, they are sometimes full, so please check other places accordingly.

Please have a nice trip! (*^_^*)
