For me, born and raised in Hiroshima, Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome are still special places.
My mother experienced the atomic bombing, albeit from a distance, and I grew up hearing about that day and what happened afterwards from my mother and others.

I was deeply impressed by the fact that the G7 Hiroshima Summit was recently held and the leaders of many countries visited here and offered flowers at the cenotaph, showing that the desire for peace is the same all over the world.
I hope you will visit Hiroshima, too.
Now, in this article, with first-time visitors in mind, I have compiled information on how to get to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park from JR Hiroshima Station by train or bus, as well as by car, plane, or boat. I hope what I know will be of help to you.
(Please note that the official name of the park is “Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park,” but I will also list “Peace Park,” which is commonly used by local residents.)
First, let’s look at the location of Hiroshima Station and Peace Memorial Park.
First of all, the location of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and its relationship to major locations is roughly as shown in this diagram. The Peace Park is located in the center of the old city of Hiroshima.
The dotted line is the streetcar. The Port of Hiroshima (Ujina Port) is at the bottom of the figure, and the Hiroshima Prince Hotel (Ujina Island), where the G7 Hiroshima Summit was held, is slightly south of the Port of Hiroshima.

The nearest station (tram stop) is the “Atomic Bomb Dome-mae” tram stop of the Hiroshima Electric Railway. The Atomic Bomb Dome is right in front of you when you get off here. You can also get to the A-bomb Dome from the “Hondori” stop ( ), which is a 6-7 minute walk. For Peace Memorial Museum, the closest stop is the Fukuro-machi stop (about a 7-minute walk to the west).
It is a 7-8 minute walk from the A-bomb Dome to Peace Memorial Museum.

Below is a description of access from Hiroshima Station to the Peace Memorial Park by means of different means of transportation.
From Hiroshima Station to Peace Park 1 Using the streetcar
Please look at the previous diagram again. This diagram focuses on the streetcars, but we think that the streetcars are the easiest way to get there. (The “circulating bus” in the next section is also good…)

The tram (Hiroshima Electric Railway) stops at the South Exit of JR Hiroshima Station. The tram will take about 15 minutes to get to “Atomic Bomb Dome-mae ” (or “Hondori”).
However, as of July 2023, the South Exit of Hiroshima Station is undergoing a large-scale urban development project, and the train boarding area is now located on a temporary walkway. (If you know what this is, please skip this section.) *The entire project is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2025.
From the Shinkansen concourse, go out to the central ticket gate and enter the temporary passageway.
When you get off the Shinkansen, there are two exit gates. One is the Shinkansen exit (North Exit) straight and slightly to the left, the other is the “Conventional Train Transfer Gate” by turning to the right on the way , and the Central Exit ticket gate through the station. The city trains are located at the South Exit, so take the latter route.
This is a shot of the Shinkansen concourse in the direction of the exit. If you go to the right in the middle, you will find the transfer gates.
Go out the central exit.
This is a photo of the Central Exit with the ticket gate in the background. There is a stairway to the south exit on the right side.
After exiting the Central Gate, you will see a north-south free passageway, go to the right (south). You will see a large sign that says “South Exit.
Proceed a little toward the south exit, and you will see an escalator (and stairs) going down to the first floor.
After following the road for a while, you will come to a point where it splits into “tram and bus line 6 – 9” and “bus line 1 – 5”, so go to “tram and bus line 6 – 9” (left).
Do not go to “Mazda Stadium” or “Taxi” before that point.
Just outside the passageway is the Hiroshima Electric Railway tram stop right in front of you.
Where do I get on the train? Where do I get off?
There are seven streetcar routes in Hiroshima, but only four of them depart from or terminate at Hiroshima Station: (1), (2), (5), and (6). Among them, streetcars bound for <1> Hiroshima Port, <2> Hiroden Miyajima-guchi/Nishi Hiroshima, and <6> Eba stop at “Genbaku Dome-mae ” or “Hondori”, so it is OK.
The only one you cannot take is the one bound for Ujina via Hijiyama (because it takes a completely different route).
Summary.
Take the bus bound for Miyajima-guchi or Nishi Hiroshima (2) or Eba (6) and get off at …… “Atomic BombDome-mae” (cross the street at the traffic light and you will see the Atomic Bomb Dome).
x Take the train bound for Ujina (1) and get off at Hondori or Fukuro-machi(walk west for 3 or 4 minutes and you will arrive at Peace Park).
×x “To Ujina via Hijiyama (5)” → No.
*The number is a system number. It is written on the front of the train.

From Hiroshima Station to Peace Park 2 How to use the circular bus “Meiplup”.
There is another way to get to Peace Park from Hiroshima Station: take the “Meipuru-Pu”, a city sightseeing circular bus. This is also convenient and recommended.

These are small buses provided by Chugoku JR Bus for the purpose of sightseeing in the city.
A single ride costs 220 yen for adults, the same as a local train ride. However, the main function of this bus is a “one-day pass.
For 400 yen, you can get on and off freely for one day. The ticket will take you to all major sightseeing spots in Hiroshima City, including the Atomic Bomb Dome, Peace Memorial Museum, Hiroshima Castle, Okonomimura, Hiroshima Prefectural Museum of Art, and Toshogu Shrine, making sightseeing in the city very inexpensive and convenient.
If you are planning to visit Miyajima on the same day, it is a waste of time, but if you plan to spend the whole day sightseeing in Hiroshima City, this bus is very effective.
If you want to take this bus, get off the Shinkansen and go out the Shinkansen Exit (North Exit) at the ticket gate on the left side.
- One ride costs 220 yen for adults and 110 yen for children (6 years old and older, under 12 years old). The price is the same as that for city trains and buses.
- One-day passes are available at the JR Express Bus Ticket Office on the 2nd floor of the Shinkansen Exit of Hiroshima Station or on board the bus. The fare is 400 yen (unlimited rides on the same day).
- The bus stop is right in front of or slightly to the left of the Shinkansen Exit .( The photo above shows the area behind the cab stand.)
- There are three different routes for the Meipulup, Orange Route, Green Route, and Yellow Route, but all of them stop at the Peace Park. There are two bus stops, one at the Atomic Bomb Dome and the other at Peace Memorial Museum.
- The bus departs from the Shinkansen Exit of the station from 8:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. (until 8:00 p.m. from March 1 to October 31), and the three routes together leave every 15 minutes.
- It takes about 14 minutes to get to the Atomic Bomb Dome and about 17 minutes to Peace Memorial Museum.

From Hiroshima Station to Peace Park 3 How to take a regular city bus
Although it may be easier to find a streetcar or a circular bus, you can of course also take a regular city bus.
The South Exit Bus Terminal is on the right at the end of the temporary passageway at the South Exit mentioned earlier.

The bus terminal looks like this. Please check the destination carefully before boarding the bus, as the place to board differs depending on the route.

Hiroshima Bus
[ 22] For Yokogawa Sta. via Kamiyacho (6th stop) “Atomic Bomb Dome-mae” stop.
[ 25] Get off at “Genbaku Dome-mae” in the direction of Iguchi, Shoko Center (6th stop), etc.
Time: 14 minutes, Fare: 220 yen (one way)
Bus stop: South Exit Bus Terminal
From Hiroshima Station to Peace Park 4 How to get there by cab
Of course, you can also take a cab from JR Hiroshima Station. This is also a good option for families or small groups.
There are cab stands at both the South and North Exits, but the South Exit is under construction and is difficult to find, and there are only a few cabs available, so we recommend using the North Exit cab stand. The North Exit taxi stand is in front of Hotel Granvia.

From JR Hiroshima Station to the Atomic Bomb Dome or to Peace Memorial Museum is about 3 km,
It takes about 10 minutes and costs about 1,000 yen.
From Hiroshima Station to Peace Park 5 Walk slowly while viewing the city!
If your legs are in good health, it may be fun to walk while taking in the sights of the city.
The distance depends on the route, but it is about 2.5 to 3 km. The time depends on the walking speed, but it takes about 40 to 50 minutes.
If you walk, I think it is easiest to follow the tram track.

The following is not directly related to JR Hiroshima Station, but is an explanation for those coming to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park from other prefectures by plane, boat, or car.
For those coming from other prefectures by plane, boat, or car
Those coming by plane (Hiroshima Airport)
Hiroshima Airport is located in Hongo, Higashi-Hiroshima City, and to be honest, it is a bit inconvenient. However, some people may find it more convenient to fly depending on where they live.
You can take a limousine bus from the airport to the “Hiroshima Bus Center” in Hiroshima City, and then walk.
Hiroshima Airport → Use limousine bus → About 51 min. to Kamiyacho/Hiroshima Bus Center in the city.
It takes about 8 min. to walk from Hiroshima Bus Center to A-Bomb Dome-mae.
Limousine Fare (Hiroshima Airport → Bus Center)
One-way: Adult 1,450 yen, Child 730 yen *Valid only on the same day
Round-trip discount: Adult 2,620 yen, Child 1,310 yen *Valid for 7 days from the date of sale

For those coming by ship (Port of Hiroshima)
There may be some who come by boat, although I doubt that there are too many.
Boats from the Kansai and Shikoku areas arrive at the Hiroshima Port Ujina Passenger Terminal (Ujina Port) in Minami Ward, Hiroshima City.
To get to Peace Park from Ujina, take the train bound for Nishi Hiroshima (3).
It takes about 30 minutes to get to Fukuro-machi.Get off there or at the next stop , Hondori.
From Hondori, walk west for about 7 minutes to the Atomic Bomb Dome, and west again from Fukuro-machi for about 7 minutes to Peace Memorial Museum.
It takes much longer from Ujina Port, but there is no transfer, so it is easier to get there.

Those coming by car (Sanyo Expressway)
Let me explain from the Hiroshima Interchange on the Sanyo Expressway.
Hiroshima Interchange→go south toward Hiroshima City (Route 54) →turn left when you hit Jonan Street.
Turn right at the next traffic light. Turn right at the next traffic light. You will come to the Kamiya-cho intersection, turn right (west), and walk about 400 meters until you reach the A-bomb Dome.
However, there is no parking lot in the Peace Park. There are several large parking lots on the east side of the Motoyasu River.

Extra Info – How to get to Miyajima from Peace Memorial Park
Many people are planning to visit Miyajima after seeing Peace Park. There are two routes to get to Miyajima from Peace Park, which we will briefly explain. (There is also a city bus, but it requires a transfer, so I will skip it.)
1.Take a city bus bound for Miyajima-guchi from the Atomic Bomb Dome-mae stop, and get off at the last stop, Miyajima-guchi.
Take the Hiroshima Electric Railway streetcar bound for “Miyajima-guchi” from “Genbaku Dome-mae” (all are double-carriages), right next to the Atomic Bomb Dome.
Once on the train, it takes about 45 minutes to reach the last stop, Miyajima-guchi. Hiroden Miyajima-guchi Station has been reconstructed and is now very close to the ferry terminal, so it should be easy to find. From there, it is a 10-minute ferry ride to Miyajima.

Fare
Hiroden tram: (one-way from the city to Miyajima-guchi) 270 yen for adults, 140 yen for children
Miyajima ferry: Adults 180 yen (360 yen round trip), children 90 yen (180 yen round trip) for both Matsudai Ferry and JR
If you buy the aforementioned “one-day boat ticket”, you can go at a discount.
Adults 900 yen, children 450 yen for train + boat.
2.To Miyajima by boat from the side of Peace Park
Another option is to use the high-speed boat bound for Miyajima that leaves from Motoyasugawa Pier in Peace Park.
(Aquanet Hiroshima Co., Ltd. operates this service under the name “Hiroshima World Heritage Route.
Although the fare is a bit expensive, it is a fun way to see the city of Hiroshima and the Seto Inland Sea from the river and the sea.
